How to Beat Overwhelm for Homeowners When Planning a Renovation

Making decisions about your home is never simple. I see a lot of clients paralyzed by the overwhelming amount of decisions involved when even vaguely sidling up to making home changes.

It starts with the home itself. It’s not meeting your needs. It should be bigger, or closer to something or further from something, or with a nicer kitchen or warmer in the winter, cooler in the summer or not have that funny smell or more even floors or a nicer bathroom, or more storage or… and on and on. I bet you have a list like this, no matter how happy you are with your house. At some point the list hits the breaking point and you have to do something about it.

That’s when the trouble starts. Actually, the trouble is figuring out where to start. What is the proper order of things, what do we need to do before we talk to a… who again? A contractor first, an architect, a real estate agent? It’s frustrating, right? So frustrating that it creates this weight on your chest and this buzz in your head and you end up flipping on another episode of Mrs. Maisel and saying to hell with it. Translation: your reaction to the intentionally unclear home renovation industry is that you are overwhelmed and you become paralyzed in the face of the impossible and seemingly contradictory steps to progress. All those little silos of information from different places lead you to wonder if you’re doing the right thing.

It really shouldn’t be this way. You don’t have to be overwhelmed by your home planning process. Yes, home renovation can be complicated. But the information you need to make wise decisions about what is right for your needs – your budget, your timeline, your bandwidth to handle chaos – it’s knowable and you can make informed decisions.

Here’s what you would like, tell me if I’m wrong:

► You would like to make discerning choices.

► You would like to know what steps to take next that are right for you, rather than most lucrative or convenient for the pro you’re hiring.

► You would like to have some basic idea about costs in order to pick a course of action.

► You don’t want to do an apprenticeship in all these different trades yourself, you’d like to just make a reasonable decision.

What if there was someone to be a little bird on your shoulder helping you along? There is and that’s me! I totally get it because I’ve been in exactly your shoes. I went through the process of planning a home renovation as a first-timer; I failed sometimes. But I spent a lot of time doing it and got to do it a LOT. After many iterations and deep dives into all the topics I am now an expert. You don’t need to go through all that! You’ve got me.

I see you, overwhelm, and after some hard-won experience battling you I am going to show Perch clients how to do it step by step.

Here’s roughly how it works:

► We figure out what your needs and vision really are.

► We gather data and build connections with the right pros (from whom I get no kick-back!).

► We create a Road Map to your future home. Take a look my Road Map Download.

Overwhelm is real. How much time, money and exhaustion is it going to cost you? Or will you take direct steps to fight the overwhelm fog and create a home that does all the things you need it to do for you? Imagine sitting down with that weight off your chest and the buzz out of your head and House checked off your list.
